InMobi is worlds largest independent mobile advertising network serving 138 billion ads per month. PostgreSQL is one of the data stores behind this scale and this talk is about various issues which we encountered in production and also how did we solve the same. I would like to share in depth knowledge and my experience after solving these issues.
1. Connection limit exceeding issue 2. temporary file limit issue due to a bad joins in query 3. Same queries running multiple times for more than an hour - Missing Index and statement_timeout 4. FATAL: could not send data to WAL stream: server closed the connection unexpectedly -- transient issues NIC and TOR issues 5. Object ownership and Releases 6. Vacuum issue for tables updated frequently 7. OOM error - 8. xlog filling the disk due to failure of archive_command 9. too many partitions and max_locks_per_transaction issue 10. PostgreSQL partitions and INSERT 0 0 issue 11. Idle in transaction 12. FATAL: requested WAL segment 00000002000032A80000002B has already been removed 13. ERROR: could not read block xxx of relation base/xxx/xxx: I/O error 14. ERROR: could not read block xxx in file "base/xxx/xxx": reindex 15. _bt_restore_page: cannot add item to page -- recreate the index 16. Cache lookup failure for index during pg_dump 17. Streaming Replication fails due to tablespace folders on Master/Slave 18. conflict with recovery
